Overview[]
Temperatures don't affect characters during the day, only at night. (*Personally don't agree with this. I have found if the shelter is kept above 15 during the day and 19/20 at start of the night characters do not get ill. Ever. If it drops below 14 during the day there is every chance they will get ill. I have never had an unexpected illness using this rule of thumb)
Scavengers won't catch cold, it only affects those who stay at the shelter. When night passes, the game calculates events separately for the character who scavenges versus those at the shelter. This can be exploited in the Marko solo story, as letting Marko scavenge every night avoids all exposure, even when the temperature is -4°C.
Similar to Wounds, ill characters who use a Med only heal overnight, even when letting them scavenge or help neighbors. Apparently resting in bed only improves character health if he slightly sick, Sick or worse states only get better with meds, so you should try to treat it as quick as possible if you dont want to end up "spending" too much. It's arguably better to not let them sleep at night (instead of guarding) because if a raid happens and the patient os killed, the Med is wasted.
However the bed still is necessary for resting if survivors can't afford Meds yet, as it prevents the disease from getting worse.
According to characters quotes, there' s seems to be an IMPLICATION that severe diseases have an chance to spread to the rest of the shelter (this is not confirmed and needs testing).
