Poor Lydia, what she has to go through! First her mother leaves her, and now this! There are so many bad people in the world, I tell you, and to think that this sweet girl has one of them as her mother... Sorry, you probably have enough on your mind already. I joke that I always had a better way with plants than with people, I love to help them grow lush, healthy and delicious.

–Irina's Description

Overview[]

Irina is one of the The Little Ones exclusive Playable Characters. Selecting Irina automatically pairs her with her niece Lydia. Lydia's parents are divorced, and Irina now looks after her while Evgeni, who is Irina's brother and Lydia's father, goes off to seek help.

Irina's trait Green Thumb allows her to grow Vegetables (but not Herbs) using half the water that other characters require.

Irina's in-game appearance

Appearance[]

Irina wears a dark brown hoodie jacket over another dark brown shirt and a pair of jeans. She carries a light brown shoulder bag.

Personality[]

Irina belongs to the survivalist archetype.

Irina’s reasonably pragmatic. She’s still happy to aid others, and is greatly concerned about her fellow survivors' well-being. However, she will go to great lengths to survive, and will be more tolerant if she or others committed crimes against thugs, soldiers, or even civilians, though not without a degree of remorse. She’s least likely to commit suicide and most likely to rob the shelter when she leaves out of all archetypes.

If traumatized enough, she will permanently shift to the insensitive modifier. Irina becomes more selfish and focused on her survival. She starts to turn a blind eye to crimes, reasoning that she can regret later if she survives the war.

As all guardian adults, Irina is greatly affected by the status of her bonded child. She will become happier just from seeing Lydia well and happy, and is easily distressed if she's suffering.

Strategy[]

Irina's overall stats are quite poor. With a mediocre inventory of 10 slots plus a below average combat proficiency and guarding proficiency, she's not a good choice for scavenging or guarding.

She greatly redeems herself however with her special trait. While a Vegetable Garden is a hefty investment, making this trait irrelevant in the early game, growing Vegetables is necessary to keep a party self-sufficient in terms of food, and she has a very large 50% discount on Clean Water, a precious resource that could be saved for cooking.

Irina is fairly resistant to mood changes from moral choices, making her an acceptable choice to commit theft or murder.

Recruitment Speech[]

Great! Look, I have to ask you for a favor, but you won't regret it, I promise. I had to flee from my home with my daughter and sister, but I know some people who owe me - I just need to meet them and arrange for a place for us and squeeze them for some supplies. And I'll share them with you when I'm back for my ladies.

–Evgeni

Death Note[]

Here lies Irina, who meant nobody any harm. I hope Evgeni is alright, for Lydia's sake.

–Note on dead body

Character Story[]

  1. "This place is definitely better than the street, but I wish we could still live in the house Evgeni built for his family. It was small, but so nice! And the garden was just delightful. I used to spend most of my free time there when I moved in."
  2. "There is absolutely no reason to worry about Evgeni. He's really resourceful, I'm sure he'll be back soon. His wife was mad to leave him. Perhaps she had been right when she said it would be best for them to move to the country, but who knew what was coming?"
  3. "Lydia is lucky to have such a doting father. Well, were she mine, I'd be doting over her too. I try not to spoil her too much, but Evgeni should go about finding someone suitable, and soon. She needs a proper mother."
  4. "I can't imagine what's taking Evgeni so long, but he better throw a big party when he returns. Lydia is beside herself and I just don't know how to appease her anymore. Well, we can only carry on and wait some more..."

Traumatized variants:[]

  1. "Oh, things aren't really looking up, are they? We used to live in a really nice house my brother built, and to move here... This isn't a proper place for a child, although it's better than freezing in the street, I guess. I just hope I can make it a bit more bearable with some plants."
  2. "I'm sure Evgeni knows what he's doing, but I'm starting to worry. Why hasn't he returned yet? He was always full of ideas, but some of them just stank. Like marrying that harpy. The only good thing she did was leaving him. If only poor Lydia understood this."
  3. "Evgeni has always been the perfect father. His daughter means everything to him. It's really troubling that he's away for so long, she misses him, poor dear. I worry that something serious must've happened to him."
  4. "Why hasn't my brother married someone suitable? Lydia wouldn't have to live without a mother, and I dread that I'll have to explain to her that her father won't return for some time, if ever... Why has it happened to this poor child?!"

Endings[]

Spoiler Warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
